New Years Eve in NYC......eek!

Hi.....we will be in New York for this New Years Eve.

A family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children - 16&13) am not overly smitten with the Ball Drop......don't think I could face standing for so long. Can anyone offer any alternatives please?

And any must do's with the children whilst we are visiting. Myself and my husband have been before but this is the children's first time visiting.

Many thanks

Fireworks in Central Park at midnight are free. You could have a nice dinner beforehand away from the Times Square mess.

Definitely, avoid Time Square after 12- 1 pm due to the arrival of people. You can walk around the World Trade Center area, Rockefeller/ Fifth Ave. area, and for dinner, you can also dine in the area. Due to new years eve, some stores might close early, so be aware of that.

Some people do NYE cruises, if that something you may like.

We have done other things like Brooklyn Bridge on New Years eve, there were no fire works but a nice festive atmosphere.

Also, Phish is playing at Madison Square Garden on New Years Eve, for a fun but unusual experience.

There are places close to the Times Square fire works (like Ellen's Stardust) that let you have dinner and listen to music & then let out right when the fireworks are going. You do have to call directly and reserve early. Plus there are special instruction to get into the area.

There will be more announcements as it gets closer.

Some Must do tips-

(Downtown Day)

Reserve early Crown (Statue of Liberty) with Statue Cruises

Lunch at Brookfield Place Winter Garden after

OWO (& foot prints)

Westfield Mall World Trade Center

(Midtown day ideas)

Top Of The Rock (no need for reservation they sell timed tickets on site)

Rock Center Cafe

Time Warner Center

I'm sure you will have more questions as you plan & I hope the people here can help. Do enjoy your trip!
