What kind of food/ experience would your daughter like and how much do you want to spend for the lunch.

Agree with the recos - but do check the menus online to see if their prices meet your defiintion of mid-range. They do in NYC - but may not in your town.

What is your daughter's style? What sort of ambience would impress her? :)

nywhiz has given nice recommendations for Midtown, though, if your daughter would be more wowed by a "cool" restaurant, you'd probably be better off taking her someplace downtown.

Some posters to the forum get a little put off when we ask what one's budget is (i.e., how much do you really want to spend per person? instead of a "range"). NYC has over 20,000 restaurants and what's "expensive" to one person is "not expensive" to another. "Mid-range" could mean $15 per entrée or it could mean $50 per entrée. This is why it's difficult to make recommendations if you don't give us a little more information.

Another way to put it is, with just your daughter and you, how much do you want to spend for lunch? $40? $50? $100?

One thing many folks don't know (or forget) about NYC is that we have nearly 9% tax on prepared foods, and then for sit-down service, a tip of at least 15 percent (very low), but usually 20%, should be added. So the meal that's $50 will really be about $65, and the meal that's $100 will come out to about $129.

Your daughter might appreciate the Hard Rock Café on 7th Ave in Times Square, but you might not. Average food and reasonable prices compared to other eating places around Times Square.

The HR I think "average" food is generous. No different than a basic diner. Although your daughter might like the decor if she hasn't been to Hard Rock before. Our daughters at that age likedTao - which has over the top oriental decor and quite nice pan asian cuisine - but it not cheap.

With all of the great choices, please don't take your daughter to a chain like Hard Rock. That would be like going to Olive Garden.
