5 super days in New york

We have returned from a wonderful 5 days in N.Y. We left Manchester travelled with Continental to Newark . Good flight plenty of drinks , arrived at 12.30pm. We were through security etc very quickly walked outside and there was a bus just about to leave, got tickets on board $7 each (we are seniors). Arrived at G.C.S. 40 minutes later and got a cab to Beekman Hotel $6.

We had a suite on 20th floor , great views, full kitchen, huge bed, bathroom. What a pleasant hotel very clean and super staff. At $815 for 5 nights a bargain!!

We unpacked and headed down to Times Square had a look around then to TOTR . Wonderful dusk views. Had coffee, and walked back to GCS then back to hotel had a meal at the Nations Cafe and bed.

Sammi our wonderful BAG was at the lobby at 9am and of we went. What a wonderful man, such knowledge. He told us so much and gave lessons on how to use the subway understand the street grid etc. We had 9 hours with him in Manhatten then Brooklyn Heights walking over the bridge. We sat out to have our lunch it was beautiful. Subway back and did a l o t of things we would n't have seen or done without Sammi. We also called in to the new BAG offices!! A very memorable day and a very memorable man.

We did Ellis Island the next day and found a lot of information we had been looking for.Other highlights were a Gospel service where we were made to feel very welcome ,central park ( there was a marathon on) ground zero and the church which was very touching. The only regret was not booking theatre tickets before we left. The lines were very long twice at the booth. However we walked so much that a meal and a drink was all we needed!! We had drinks at the top of the Beekman which was great as we didn't have to walk far. We found everyone so friendly and happy to help you. Cabs cheap and staff at the Beekman very helpful. Flight back all on time . Thank you to everyone on the site for advice it certainly helped to make things go very smoothly

Nice overview phyliss. Would be interested whether the Beekman was part of a package with airfare or if you booked it separately. Also would like to hear about the gospel service. Where?

phyliss,

enjoyed reading your trip report.

we're seniors too, so was glad to hear about the bus trip from EWR to GCS.

did you buy a transport pass or just pay as you went? Did you take the subway much?

one more question - (we want a friendly gospel service too) how did you get to Harlem?

Brahmama, we did use the subway we bought a$20 pass and a couple of singles Our BAG gave us very good instructions on how to use it, and we didn't get lost . We took a taxi to Harlem then the subway back to central park. We also got senior rates on the ferry to Ellis Island and TOTR. We bought heeleys in Modells and they gave us senior discount which was a suprise as we didn't know about this. Have a good time.

Sounds like a wonderful trip, all over town.

You are not the only one to mention New Canann Church, probably not as touristy as Abyssinian.

Glad it all worked out, and a BAG, too!
