He took my card and he asked me will you use this sim to another city I said Yes for sure I ll travel other places and I ll use internet. Well he asked me to put password and Amount was not mentioned once I got recipt instead of 40 dollars it was 195.95 dollars and I said whats this he said I activated services blah blah.. and once I start arguining with him I also called to police but police took time for arriving until that shopkeeper came to me and said to me I ll return you 120 dollars you can leave dont waste yourtime. I was tire already and having really nervious for this openly scam. Well He just gave me recipt of refund for taking my card and I left by this recipt and I need professional help I also checked my banking no money returned. I can send the recipt to any American for my help . If they know the rules of taxes. Please save America from such people who do business and fraud with foreigners.

Your bank won't help you? What you should have done was waited for the police. I don't know why you would take the word of a scumbag who just tried to rip you off only minutes before. You can contact the attorney general's office of New York at Consumer Helpline: 1-800-771-7755. Hopefully you have all the info about that business available. This seems to be a common scam of tourists and it won't stop until tourists start reporting it to authorities.

I was not able to call my bank due to my local number that time has no crdit for call to banking system. I have no idea for anything even for police 911 my friend he called me. And I spoke to police we were waiting outside of the shop. The shop keepers were young gys and they told you cant do anything biils are attached its better to leave even at the begging he was shouting on me. I also notice one chines women crying at counter I feel they are doing scam openly with foreginers. Well I just wanted to confirm the recipt of refund is aythentic or he did fraud so I can still have time to take action.

If you're still here, phone 311 to make a complaint. Otherwise file an on-line complaint via 311 here: https://www1.nyc.gov/311/

if you wanted T-Moblie sim their shops are thick on the ground https://www.t-mobile.com/store-locator/

P.S. NEVER go to Times Square for anything but tourist crap

https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20150106/mi… - they do arrest these people if tourists actually make reports. Here is the department of consumer affairs for NYC https://www1.nyc.gov/site/dca/index.page Please make a report because nobody who lives in NYC will ever have this happen to them, since its really only tourists that need sim cards like these.

If you want to make a walk-in report, Midtown South is probably the police precinct

New York City is no different from any other major city in the world. There are always scammers who prey on unsuspecting tourists; especially in Times Square.

As the previous DNAINFO news story says: these guys are scam artists. They prey on tourists, thinking that tourists either will not be able to hang around to file a police report or won't know how to do so. Sometimes they just pay their fines and then go on scamming people because it's profitable enough that they can afford the fines. They don't scam locals because they know locals would call the cops.

In NYC only EVER deal with cell phone stores owned by the cell phone companies themselves, much like you should only ever deal with official NYC taxis or cars summoned through a reputable app. I understand how you could have come to NYC thinking that we have law and order, and these things wouldn't happen, but they happen all the time! I'm so sorry.
