Vacation World Rentals

Has anyone ever used this company? They claim there is an apt at 133 West 45th street.

Welcome to the NYC forum. You've obviously not done any research on vacation apt. rentals in NYC. It's a really really bad idea. Lots of internet scams.

tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60763-i5-k1563270…

There are plenty of suite hotels with kitchens etc. This apt. could be for real, but it's not worth taking the chance. It is also likely above a restaurant (Cabana Carioca) if it is legit and may not be an elevator building. If you have to have an apt. use a broker.

nyhabitat.com

is legitimate.

From VacationWorldRentals.com:

"Our Luxury home has been recently renovated and has three bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. We can sleep 8 comfortably with all the comforts of home. The master bedroom has 2 king-sized bed and the other bedrooms have 2 queen size beds. There is a full-sized sleeper sofa in the living room. You can enjoy the beautiful view of the lake while relaxing on the decks. The wood burning fireplace is a welcome attraction during the cold, winter months. There are many activities to choose from right in the centre of Manhattan. The luxury apartment is a walking distance to central park. Other activities include an Olympic sized pool, Sightseeing, Live Theater, Fitness Center, Cinemas, Amusement Parks, Restaurants e.t.c. The luxury apartment provides full service such as a fuel dock, a store; there are car rentals services located nearby"

But is it a walk-up fuel dock or is there an elevator?

Personally, I liked the master bedroom with two

(!) king-sized beds and the two (!) lesser bedrooms with two queen-sized beds each. All of that, for $400 a night.

I enjoy reading the ammenities on their apartments. Apparently there is a secret NY that no one on this site has ever heard of. Maybe the "owners" of these apartments should all start posting as experts. Then we can learn where the nearby casino gambling is, the olympic swimming pools, amusement parks etc. all are.

I have found another scam from straight from Vacationhomes.com - This is a private 2 bedroom apartment with 2 bathroom sleep up 6 people is fully furnished this include Air Conditioning, TV, VCR, Stereo, CD Player, Full Kitchen, Microwave, Dishwasher, Refrigerator, Cooking utensils provided, Linens provided, Washer, Garage, Laundry, crib and the same furbishes ,pool and the JACUZZI

Located 132 West 58th Street, New York, NY 10019

(Bet 6th & 7th Avenue) - I picked it as a scam straight away. Out of curiosity, i enquired and got an email from jennifer kaplan who asked for the FULL rental up front plus a $700 security deposit all to be wired to a bank account in a different name! Oh, and all I need to do was see the doorman when I arrived and he would give me the key..its all so easy!! What a way to ruin your holiday!

We have been looking at VRBO.com and most apartments seem quite legit and they also offer a $5000 guarantee against being scammed in the way mentioned above. There are conditions though so visit their parent site to get the full details - homeaway.com

good luck!

BobbyC, the description you provided is priceless! On top of the snooker (who has room for a snooker table?), the large parking space (goodness knows there aren't many of those in New York City!) and the porch (are you kidding me?), what really sealed the deal for me was the promise of "nice wall paint", unlike everywhere else in New York that uses sub-standard wall paint.

lana5boys, run, do not walk from this outfit.
