aargh struggling for restaurants!

hi guys,

going to NYC in less than 3 weeks now and although I have planned the majority of my itinerary (5 days) i am stuck for ideas for where to eat. We don't eat much throughout the day and prefer to eat at dinner but we are on a budget so don't want to fork out on all the posh nosh stuff although it does look good! any ideas, have looked on menupages but top picks from you are most welcome!

thank you

Can you give us a general sense of where you might be each night? There are good, cheap restaurants all over the city, but there's not point in our recommending someplace on the Lower East Side if you're going to be on the Upper West Side.

it's our second time and made the mistake of eating at times square the last time so would like to avoid this area. We will be getting the subway to most places like greenwich village, financial district, soho etc.
