This link to the airport's website has transportation information.

Your best option, IMHO, is the Long Island Railroad. It is much cheaper. I doubt you could get a taxi from NYC to take you there. A car service would be over $100.

Taxis from NYC are allowed to refuse trips outside the city limits, and that's WAY outside the city limits. I'd estimate $120 for a cab ride.

Most people take the LIRR if they have to get to Macarthur Airport.

Using the LI airport is a terrible idea from NYC unless you're getting a free ticket. A taxi is not the answer. You'll need a car service and it will cost $110+ and take 1 1/2 hrs. Your alternative is the Long Island Railroad from Penn station to Ronkonkoma and then a shuttle bus or taxi from there to the airport. Have you already bought this ticket?

BTW, we're all assuming by "the Long Island Airport" you mean Islip Macarthur (ISP).

Thanks for the responses, Yes i did mean ISP and no i have not bought a ticket yet. They were about $100 cheaper than LGA and there are 4 of us travelling so we thought i may save us a few dollars but not so sure now!!

Well, with 4 of you, if you share a car service, you've still saved at least $200-250 total so maybe it's not a bad idea. Taking the train is not the end of the world either and would cost $14/person. It's just a matter of time.

Southwest Airlines sometimes has much lower fares from Islip and I have seen lots of people making the trek out to Islip on the Long Island Rail Road Ronkonkoma branch trains. The trains are modern, comfortable, safe and reliable. The trains run at least every hour and there is a shuttle that connects the rail station with the airport. Why not, if it saves you money, go for it...

Do not fly into ISP airport on Long Island if you are staying in the city!!!

TRAFFIC, etc. is NOT worth saving a few bucks!

I would think the cost savings has to be a lot considering the cost and wasted time (time is money) of going out to Islip to fly instead of one of the three NYC airports.

But take the LIRR, a cab or limo will be way over $100.
