Every day. :)

It's not like the UK where there are only sales once or twice a year.

Retail stores in the US are "constantly" having sales, for any event or excuse...

They have big events right after the Thankgiving holiday (end of November) to start the runup to Christmas shopping. Then they have sales right after Christmas. And at New Years. And two weeks later at the Martin Luther King Birthday holiday weekend. And a month after that when President's Day holiday rolls around. And then before Easter. After Easter. Spring sale. Summer sale. Autumn sale. Fourth of July Sale. Columbus Day sale. Labor day sale..."we have too much stuff to sell so let's have a sale sale"

Getting the picture? :)

Recently, there are sales in all the department stores all the time. They are desperately trying to stimulate buying.

I am sorry for digging up this thread again, but would like to clarify and ask when are the 'biggest sales' occuring in NYC?

Is it equivalent to Europe's Winter (Jan sales) and Summer (July sales)?

I will be there sometime around Christmas for a week and was hoping there would be great Post Christmas bargains.

Avondhu--With the exception of small boutiques, most stores have sales almost every day. Around New Year's you can expect discounts on winter clothes and leftover holiday merchandise.

is it safe to say that Post-Christmas sales are usually better than pre-Christmas sales?

Also, where to get great winter wear bargains?

"is it safe to say that Post-Christmas sales are usually better than pre-Christmas sales?"

It is NOT safe to say that. Some will be the same, some won't be. It really depends on the store.

Well known discount places in and around New York City include Century 21, Filene's Basement, Syms, Loehmann's, and Burlington Coat Factory.
