Not sure how to phrase this question

Let me start this by saying that I am from St. Louis, where, generally speaking, a grocery store is a large, somewhat institutional building, built for speed and organization, but not necessarily for "personality". That said, we were in New York last March, and got lucky enough to have a BAG. He took us everywhere! From the Village, to Soho, through NYU, Chinatown, Little Italy, Financial district....you get the picture! This is part of the problem...we went so many places that most of the time, I have no idea where we were...Anyway, I think we might have been in Soho...and we entered a really neat grocery store. It had a great selection of everything, and incredibly beautiful displays (in fact, DH nearly got in big trouble for taking a picture - the proprietor thought he was working for the competition). I seem to remember that this store was on a fairly busy street.

My DD and I are going to New York in a couple of weeks, and I would love to take her to this store (of course, no, I don't know the name!), but have no idea of the name or address. Does this sound remotely familiar to any of you locals, or am I crazy?

I'll have to ask him tonight. In the meantime, I think it might not be too far from New School?

Definitely not Dean & Deluca - I don't think it was Gourmet Garage, either. I know it sounds crazy that I want to take her to see a grocery store, but....

Unless you were in the Village, not Soho, and the place was Citarella, your options are getting extremely limited:
