Anyone heard of The Carvi Hotel?

It's that time of year again! I'm booking our mid-Sept. stay and I'm checking on quikbook for discounts. (there are many).

I came across The Carvi Hotel, read One review from a first time poster, the hotel looks new and I haven't seen it mentioned on this forum before.

Price is right, anyone have information about the place?

Thanks in advance

Make of this what you will, but the DOB lists that building as

O7-OFFICE BUILDINGS

Also, the website says alternately that it's at 152 West 55th (the 07 address above), 155 West 55th, and, mysteriously, "the hottest point in Manhattan, 46th street between 5th and 6th Avenues."

Thanks, Crans! So, do you think it's operating as an illegal hotel?

I'm not sufficiently well-versed in the intricacies to say, but a property that has only one very glowing first-time review and that provides three different addresses, none of which DOB considers to be a hotel, is not a place that inspires in me an excess of confidence.

The website looks quite legitimate. What rate are you finding for them? I looked up a rate for mid-september (7 days) and I think those rates are outrageous.

I picked same dates (sep 19-26) and looked at quikbook and found:

Best Western Seaport (downtown): 169 plus tax

Radio City Apt (220-230)

Something must be going on in NYC that week. the rates start low and really spike during the week. Even Eastgate Tower spiked to $280.

It appears to me that Carvi is a Brazillian co. that has a hotel in Lagos Brazil and may also own Ipanema Chalet (on west 46th st) that I think is probably an illegal hotel. They also have a location in the east 50's. Whether this is another (Illegal) hotel or offices, I don't know.

quikbook rates:I found $165.00 on quikbook for 9/19 at the Carvi. The Algonquin is also available (non-cancellable) for $199.00.

The Fitzpatrick hotels are on sale for $199.00 too.

I'm hoping to stay mid-town this time.

Prices are indeed higher for this time than they were last year.

Thanks, everyone.

Crans and Whiz: I'll eliminate the Carvi as a choice. You've confirmed my doubts.

I was also asking myself that question because a friend of mine wants a room with 2 double beds for the end of July and I saw the Carvi on Quikbook. I did some research and read somewhere that is was once Madonna's townhouse. Could that be true?
