Upper West Side help (maybe nyc10025?)

Even though I wasn't able to fit a hotel on the UWS into my budget, I really want to take some time on this next trip to at least visit and explore. Can someone give me a possible itinerary to get a good feel for the area? Something like a self-guided walking tour that starts in one area and hits some of the must-see, or even hidden gem kinds of places, with an ending point. I have a book that suggests possible walking tours, but thought maybe someone really familiar with the area might have better suggestions. Thanks!

The walking tour below is a bit old but it will get you to much of the highlights of the UWS. What type of things are you looking for?

Nothing in particular, but since I've never spent any time at all there (except for Lincoln Center), I just wanted to find out what might be some of the best places to visit.

I can't really suggest a walking tour per se, but here are some ideas: A walk around the campus of Columbia U might be interesting (Bway & 116). Also at 94th Street between Bway and West End is Pomander Walk: a small group of charming little houses you can peek at through a gate.

Not sure if this qualifies as Upper West Side, but it's certainly north of Lincoln Center . . .

We spent a few hours there and just loved it!

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll use them to help map out a nice walk for my friend and myself in October.

When you decide where you want to go on the UWS, get back to me and we can get into more details. There has been a suggestion to see Pomander Walk. Don't go out of your way to see it because you can only see it from the street because the internal part is private. However, if you decide to go, I'm live only a couple of blocks away and I can suggest some restaurants or maybe we can even get together for a drink.
