Basketball boots - where to buy?

Hi,

My husband is after some Basketball boots when we come over in January (we are catching a Knicks game at MSG too). Can anyone direct me to somewhere with a good selection? (Possibly unusual or limited edition type too?) Can they be found at Nike Town, Adidas, etc? Or any other places?

Thanks

Do you mean basketball athletic shoes??

Try MO's Modell Sporting Goods - locations around the city.

We wear boots to keep our feet warm and dry in the winter.

Yep that's what I mean only we call them Basketball Boots over here because they're boot shaped (i.e. give ankle support) as opposed to just trainers, sneakers, shoes, etc.

Thanks for the store tip!

As they say "Two great cultures separated by a common language" or something to that effect.

There will be a number of sneaker stores, aka basketball shoes, as you wander thru the Village, or close by, like Modells,

and Paragon,

They're normally called 'hi-tops' in the States. Or they used to be, at least...

Niketown and the NBA Store are worth visiting but - from memory - didn't have that big a selection of shoes/trainers/sneakers. It was more memorabilia but I didn't really search in there. I was feeling my age and both places were just too noisy and manic for me!

I got a decent pair in a big sports shop just by Union Square. I was specifically looking for ankle support as I've rolled my ankle more times than I care to remember and I found that most of the US stores tended to carry the trendier 'lo-tops' that are generally just like a normal shoe and don't give that much support. If your hubby struggles with torn ligaments then he might just be lucky to get a good pair...and combine them with a pair of these ankle braces - firstaid4sport.co.uk/cid/… - and he'll be great!

Can't remember the name of the shop but I think you could see it from the NW corner of Union Square ( I was there to visit the Greenmarker - which was great).

The only time I've been to MSG for a game was in 2000 but they had a tiny rabbit-warren of a shop on one of the lower concourses selling basketball t-shirts. They had Knicks shirts and things that I hadn't seen elsewhere in the city. It was pretty old-fashioned in 2000 so it might not be there anymore, or might have been updated.

Alife Rivington Club on the lower east side should have what you want.

Thanks all.

NFMac - it's more of a fashion thin rather than him actually wanting to play in them but thanks for the ankle support tip.

Nywhiz - they look like a great selection.

Will check out all the others too!
