Where to eat Cheesecake

Thanks for all the advice on the "Where to eat Pizza" post. Now, on to cheesecake. I heard from some friends that Junior's is worth going to. As a first time visitor, should I go there, or somewhere else?

I think Junior's is worth it. However the slices are large, IMO! Of course, there are other good spots for cheesecake, too. Hopefully others will pass along some of their favorites.

I always want to say Lindy's, but that place has been closed for years, so I gotta say Junior's.

This may be the best, S & S plain cheesecake, check their link.

But you have to check which restaurants carry this, unless you buy a full one for yourselves, which is not a bad idea if you have a frig. Juniors is just a more covenient place to have one.

Zabar's sells the S&S cheesecake. I've also heard glowing reviews of Eileen's; the tiny storefront is just steps away from the #6 subway line's Spring St. station in SoHo. As I understand it, hers is the less dense, "fluffier" version; it's also available in individual rounds:

There are still 2 Lindy's in Manhattan: 1 in the Theatre District at 7th Ave. & W. 53rd; the 2nd at 7th Ave. & W. 32nd St, convenient to Macy's & the Empire State Building. Current reviews suggest you'd be wise to not eat a meal there but rather go there for simply the cheesecake. On the rare occasion when I now eat cheesecake, I prefer to make my own, but I remember liking Lindy's better than Junior's.

If you want to expand your horizons and check out the Italian-style cheesecake made with ricotta cheese, the Manhattan Chowhound board recently offered this list of possibilities:

We had cheesecake from Juniors and also the Carnegie Deli and Carnegie Deli won hands down from our entire group of 8! As a matter of fact, before we left NY City, we bought an entire cheesecake and ate in the lobby of our hotel!

Actually, the Carnegie makes its own -- and has some passionate advocates on Chowhound. Available for shipping too :-)

The Carnegie itself has many supporters as well as many detractors . I am in the second group. I would much rather go to Katz's or 2nd Ave Deli..
