Easter Sunday

I would like to know if everything is closed on this day? Are the delis and fast food places open? Since i am on a tight buget due to this being my second trip in two months to New York I was thinking of having a picnic in Central park with my children but have no idea what the weather is like in the begining of April.Thank You in advance.

Major department stores closed transit on holiday schedule - restaurants etc...open - remember, NYC is the City that never sleeps!

You will find everything you want - it's not like in Europe where it is more of a major holiday including the day after.

fifth avenue will be closed to traffic for the easter parade, which, oddly, is not a parade.

most everything else will be open.

Al - maybe we should rename it - the Easter Stroll, naw sounds too hookerish!

Anyway - I 've often wondered what people from elsewhere think when they come to see the Easter Parade - must be confusing.

If the weather is good enough for a picnic in the park then you should go to Whole Foods at Columbus Circle for a great selection of ready made foods.

FYI, "Easter Monday" is NOT observed in the US, so everything is back to business after Easter.

We were there several years ago on Easter Sunday. Rather brisk out, as I recall. Blustery with rain most of the week (it was April). I had brought springy clothes, open-toed sandals, etc. as the weather in Seattle was lovely. Silly me. NY was still very February-ish--40-50 degrees out, everyone in black, coats, scarves, boots, gloves. I had to go out and buy a pair of boots!

Weather first week of April is hard to predict - well, as it is any other time of the year - but, there have been some years where it has been warmish out - I've been out without a jacket and others were it has been on the very cool side and wet.
