new york songs

I am in the process of downloading songs for my trip to New York, and want as many as possible to reflect a New York theme, so far i have the following:

(Life in) the big apple - Kajagoogoo

New York, New York - Frank Sinatra

Alicia keys new one, think its simply called 'New York'

Kids in America - Kim Wilde (there is a mention of new york in this one)

Downtown train by rod stewart (i know its mentions all them Brooklyn girls in it so possibly about travelling into manhattan?)

Can anyone think of any more New York songs i can download? thanks in anticipation!

Hope you've got plenty of room on your MP3 player!

Happy listening!

P.S. If you're going to get Downtown Train, please go for the original by Tom Waits!!!

From Digable Planets, circa 1993:

Lookin out the window watchin all the people go

Buggin off a funny vibe cause now it seems they're equal

Wonder what would 'trane say wonder what my pop say

Buggin off the calmness in the Apple

Who me I'm coolin in NY, I'm chillin in NY

The hoods is on my block and the brothers at the court

The baseball hats is on and the projects is calm

Dreamtime's extended - and highly recommended

Lou Reed:

A hustle here and a hustle there

New york city is the place where they said

Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side

Sophie Alice Bextor:

New york city lights so bright

We can lose ourselves

And start a new life

Run away and leave tonight

(let's do it, feel it, touch it, taste it)

New york city take a bite and

Subway down to times all night

Barry Manilow:

it's the New York City rhythm

runnin' thru' my life,

the pounding beat of the city streets

that keeps mydreams alive.

I'm lost, I'm found, I'm up, I'm down,

but somehow I survive.

Rob Thomas:

Yeah I'm sending you a merry New York Christmas

and a prayer for peace on earth within our time

Hear the sidewalk angels echo halleluja

We understand more, now more than ever

Billie Holiday:

Autumn in New York, why does it seem so inviting?

Autumn in New York, it spells the thrill of first-nighting.

Glittering crowds and shimmering clouds in canyons of steel;

they're making me feel: I'm home.

Manhattan Transfer (via the Ronettes?)

Ooo wahooo wah coolcool kitty

Tell us about the boy from new york city

Ooo wahooo wah c'mon kitty

Tell us about the boy from new york city

James Brown:

Down and out in New York City

Ain't nowhere to be

Where can you do when you're

Down and out in New York City

The Kingston Trio, recorded live at The Bitter End in 1960:

As I walked down to Chatham Street, a fair maid I did meet.

She asked me, please, to see her home. She lived on Bleecker Street

Now, if you'll only come with me, you can have a treat.

You can have a glass of brandy and something nice to eat.

Early Simon & Garfunkel, from a time when most adults thought, if they'd heard the names, that they were a law firm:

And the song that made me want to move here, by Godley & Creme:

Demented New York athletes staggering 'round the block!
