What to do after walking the Brooklyn Bridge at Sunrise?

Going to NYC this week, have always wanted to walk the Brooklyn Bridge at sunrise (6 am sharp!), will plan to do tha one morning.

Am trying to get ideas on what to do that early in the morning? The obvious is to walk over to the Today Show, but that really doesn't interest me. What else is going on at 7-8 am?

The parks are at their most beautiful, and most peaceful, early in the morning. Head up to Central Park or over to Prospect Park, depending on which direction you walk the bridge.

I agree with heading to one of the parks. Other ideas (assuming you were walking into Manhattan) - it would be a good time to head over to the ferry if you have any interest in going to the SOL and/or Ellis Island, head over to the WTC site, or head to the Village and have a leisurely breakfast.

Over the weekend, there are flea markets that open very early. You could also take a ride on the STaten Island ferry. Do you plan to walk roundtrip or from NYC to Brooklyn or the opposite?

Plan to ride the subway over to Brooklyn and walk back with the rising sun behind me. Will be this Wed or Thurs, whichever looks to have better weather at sunrise.

Any recommendations on breakfast spots on the Manhattan side?

which direction are you crossing, toward west or east?

if east, then visit the Brooklyn Bridge park

you can have breakfast on Montague street, there are many cafe's there

you can also catch a ferry to governor's island from BBP, then take the manhattan bound ferry on return which will dock near battery park.

Crossing toward the west, from Brooklyn to Manhattan.

I'd walking down Broadway to the Staten Island Ferry terminal or maybe a bench in front of Trinity Church to watch the rush hour start.

No, this is not a peaceful and serene experience, but it is classic NYC.

For breakfast, you can easily get a roll and coffee from one of the countless street carts, or stop in at the numerous delis on Broadway or Church Street, and eat while you people watch. Or would you like an espresso and an omelet or something?

Looks like classic 3-H summer weather this week: hazy, hot and humid.

Sounds like a great idea! Enjoy!

Yeh, I'm wondering how I was stupid enough to consider leaving the breezes of Maine for temps in the high 90s. :)

So, we walked the bridge yesterday. We didn't aim for sunrise because the forecast was for heavy overcast--no reason to kill ourselves when clouds were going to be obscuring the sun anyway. But, we still went early (got there at 7:15, or about 1:15 after official sunrise).

Totally wonderful experience. Lots of walkers, joggers, and bike riders, and we both kept stopping to take all sorts of cool photos of lower Manhattan and a few of midtown.

We spent a 45 mins on the bridge and headed then to the boat for the SOL and Ellis Island. The first boat on that day left at 8:30 and the lines get really long really quickly at the SOL, so glad we went so early.
