Do all Stabucks in NYC have free WIFI? Our hotel charges $13.
per day for use of WIFI. What does WIFI stand for?
Wi-Fi refers to wireless internet access, transmitted over radio waves. Many people wrongly believe it stands for "wireless fidelity"; in actuality, it's just a trademark.
Starbucks started totally free Wi-Fi access this summer; I haven't been to a Starbucks since it started so can't comment on how well it works:
A map of other Wi-Fi hotspots around town:
Mac Donalds traditionally had free wifi too so you might want to check that out...
great map Crans...thanks for that...Edited: 30 August 2010, 14:04
I decided like 5 years ago that one of these days when things get realllllly boring ..... I'm gonna march myself right into Starbucks ..... buy myself like one of those huge 128 ounce Plenta coffees and then sit down and write a novel.
Writers always look soooo "tortured" when they're in Starbucks writing stuff on the computer with a cup of coffee nearby. Sweet !
Depending on where you are the New York Public Library has free wifi.
Also most of the Burger Kings have signs saying they do.
I thought Starbucks charged but thats just back in the UK.
I thought only the homeless and\or mentally disturbed persons went to the library anymore, but this changes everything!
I'm glad that there is free wifi in Starbucks!!
my hotel charges 10$/day for it..so it would be good to have my coffee with free wifi :)
Hopefully,Starbucks is everywhere in Manhattan!
All the starbucks we visited this summer were totally FREE WIFI!
Thanks for info and map.
I will be there Wednesday.
lol at library, I was exploring this morning at 8am and when I popped in (thought I'd see it as I'm a bookworm) there was quite a mix of students, professionals and crazy people! I had my laptop in my bag so collected my emails as a nice bonus and headed off - I was a lot more happier paying $10 for my hotel WiFi
Also I walked past a lot of Starbucks today with intention of a Coffee with my emails but again headed back to the hotel as they were all packed with people looking like they were camping on the WiFi so guess it is free.
In the UK its free with a Starbucks card.Edited: 31 August 2010, 00:04
