Advice on a few things..

Hi, we want to head to the Empire state building one of the days we are in NY, could we also do this along with Rockefeller centre, just trying to make use of our days, as we only have 3 full days so trying to cram as much as we can in with things that are located nearer to each other?

one of the days we have booked a boat cruise with circle line42 which takes us along to the statue of liberty, along the hudson, under brooklyn bridge & arround that area, on the way back we were thinking of stopping through central park, wall street, does this sound ok - ie are we heading in the right direction for all of these places & also we want to get some shopping in amongst all this! :0)

On this packed day we will also want to stop off for some food in the evening, not getting changed so looking for a good recomendation for a diner, good burgers etc?

thanks

don't quite understand what you mean regards 'stopping through central park, wall street'. Where does the boat tour drop you off?

Wall St and Central Park aren't close to each other.

If you don't already have a map of manhattan that you can easily refer to when making your plans -- GET ONE. There will be one in most any guidebook, or you can find and print one online.

It helps to have the map in front of you when figuring out what's what -- and how to plan without backtracking.

Firstly I would invest in a map, so you can start to get an idea where places you want to visit are, in relation to each other.

You could cram heaps into the day you want to do the Empire State and The Rockefeller.

You may reconsider doing the Top of the Rock, which has views far superior to the Empire State building. Shopping on Fifth Avenue - Saks, Tiffanys, Abercrombie etc, to then scoot onto Central Park South for a stroll, and then maybe over to Bloomingdales?

Wall Street is nowhere near Central Park. You could spend one of your days exploring downtown, taking in sights such as Wall Street, Battery Park, and from there you could venture over the Brooklyn Bridge. You could also do some shopping downtown, and maybe grab a bit to eat.

As for the day you are doing the cruise, what time have you booked it for? and how long? Is it the 2/3 hour?

Zarro2005 - great thank you, yes thats the sort of thing we want to do, we have the cruise booked for 10am as i'd read it was advsed to do it early and it is for two hours..these are the details of the trip..

If you're pressed for time, give us 2 hours and experience the grandeur of mid and lower Manhattan on the Semi-Circle Cruise. You'll enjoy magnificent views of the world's premier skyline and a close-up view of Lady Liberty. Sail down the Hudson, cruise around the Battery, up the East River, and under the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges to the United Nations and back.

this goes from pier 42 and back to there after the cruise, so from there its where to head to? thanks

Empire state Building Stays open until 2 am, so I would actually squeeze that in late night if you are pressed for time:

esbnyc.com/tourism/tourism_visitorinfo.cfm…

The Circle line dock is 20 min Subway ride from the Financial District and about a 25 min walk to Central Park (there are other boats close to financial district, but yours is in Midtown on the west side). You could chose to do one of these areas afterwords.

I would suggest look at what you have set, and then start to build your plan for each day. This is a rough break down of some things in different areas and it may help:

Midtown - Central Park South, Columbus Circle, Rockefeller center(TOTR), Time Square, Grand Central Station, & The United Nations, and Empire State Building are just some things in Midtown .

Downtown -Union Square, The East Village, The West village (Greenwich Village), Washington Square park, SoHo, and the Lower East Side (LES) Little Italy.

Lower Manhattan/ The Financial District -World Trade Center (WTC), Wall St./ the NY stock exchange, The South Street Seaport, and The Brooklyn Bridge, the Southern tip of Manhattan has ferries to Staten Island and Governors’ Island.

You should check on this, I think it is off 42nd street...not pier.

Mrs Puddle is correct -- it actually is Pier 83 at 42nd street for the Circle line and there is a cross town bus (M42) that takes you right there and back again.

If you wanted to combine that with the TOTR look for combo tickets and you can take the M42 over to 5th avenue and then walk up 9 blocks to the TOTR

or down 8 blocks to the Empire State Bldg. Both are near 5th avenue.
