I thought amateur photographers -- visitors and residents -- might be interested in this:
"The New-York Historical Society (N-YHS) is soliciting original digital photographs of contemporary Times Square in New York City
* from West 42nd to 47th Streets at Broadway or Seventh Avenue AND
* taken between November 21, 2010 and March 31, 2011.
"You are invited to share your photos with us and add them to history. Photographs collected on this website will be held indefinitely in a searchable database for the benefit of future generations. "

N-YHS (yes, one of its quirky charms is that there IS a hyphen) is a wonderful small museum on Central Park West at W 76th. We've visited twice and loved it both times. But much of the space is closing for renovations March-November 2011. This web exhibit sounds like an interesting way to add to their collection -- which is so much more than photos. Visit some time if you can.
