For Thai, I'd look at

Wondee Siam: nymag.com/listings/restaurant/wondee-siam/

Pam: http://www.pamrealthaifood.com/

Olieng: http://www.olieng.com/

But there are a ton of others in the area:

For upscale Mexican, I'd go to

Hell's Kitchen: http://www.hellskitchen-nyc.com/

or Toloache, which isn't really in Hell's Kitchen but is close enough:

For bare bones Mexican, try

Tehuitzingo (a taco shop in the back of a bodega):

Tulcingo del Valle:

or Guelaguetza:

This is a good question for Chowhound.com and www.Yelp.com.

However, here are some recommendations:

- Arguably the best Thai restaurant in Manhattan is in the area: Wondee Siam www.yelp.com/biz/wondee-siam-new-york-3

- NYC is not known for great Mexican, but you can try this: yelp.com/biz/guelaguetza-deli-restaurant-new…

You must go to lime jungle in Hells Kitchen. 50th and ninth. I live in the area and frequent it very often. Best mexican in the area, and most reasonable. As far as thai, go to room service on 9th and 48th. Again, excellent.

I am in the city a lot to go to the theater. For restaurants I almost always go to 9th Avenue. One of my favorites is Cara Mia at 9th and 46th street - http://www.caramiany.com/ They have a prix fixe menu, you might just have to ask. But just walk up and down between 43rd and 52nd and see what looks interesting.
