Top of the Rock or Empire State - what's the diff?

Hi

Starting to narrow things down now and need some help. Why choose Top of the Rock over Empire State or vice versa?

Thanks

If you do a search on the forum you will find numerous posts on the subject - My response is in a post on my blog called Top of the Rock Twilight Zone view.

ESB.....long lines in stuffy,crowded hallways

TOTR.....no lines (the 3 times I was there), better views, cool elevator ride

We have been to the Empire State Building twice in 18 months and walked straight in both times ,

Infact we went to Top of The Rock and had to wait so left and walked staight into Empire State Building, it was at 5.30 pm and alot of peolpe had left , ( getting ready for dinner , sports games , theatre reservation etc ) so no crowds or lines to get in.

It realy depends on what you want to visit .

Top of the Rock is said to have better views of the park and surrounds as it is not as crowded by surrounding building as the Empire State Building is. But the Empire State Building is a classic only in "New York" visit.

Do both, you get a different view from each of them.

Only at TOTR can you get a great view of the ESB at dusk.

No chicken wire fence to block your view and more interesting photographs for you to shoot.

We just did the TOR last week and the view was great. We did have to wait 30 minutes to go up. We did not do the ESB. The people that we spoke with prior to the trip all preferred the TOR.

Also done both. I thought the Top of the Rock had the best view as you get the view of Central Park & the Empire State building.

No/little waiting time either.

Thanks everyone for your replies. When travelling with kids I really want to have a good idea of things we intend doing.

Thanks again.

I am going next year for 6 nights and I'm planning on going to both but at different times. I'm thinking empire state during the day then TOR at night.
