Zone A hotels to be vacant by 12noon tomorrow (Saturday)

My sister-in-law and niece, who checked into the Andaz Wall Street yesterday (and love it BTW), report, that as of 7 PM this evening, the City's evacuation order is still in effect. Consequently, all guests there -- and in any hotel in what's denominated as Evacuation Zone A -- are expected to vacate their rooms before 12 noon Saturday.

Fortunately, there seem to be sufficient rooms for the displaced guests who wish to (or must) stay on, owing to cancellations at other hotels throughout the City.

Here's a zoomable map of the Zones; zone A areas are in orange:

Even if I copy the link to my browser, it doesn't work but I'm up on 90th St and the HOHO buses have been cancelled for Sat and Sun

Hola.

Phew. We finally finished with our NYC prep and will soon be having dinner at one of our favorite Village eateries.

Apparently, a Category 1 hurricane may be the trigger to evacuate NYC “A Zone” areas, and for those see:

nyc.gov/html/…hurricane_map_english.pdf

and if visitors are not sure of the “hurricane evacuation zone” of their accommodations, the following NYC.gov application may be helpful:

http://gis.nyc.gov/oem/he/index.htm

(Note: Be patient when clicking on the above hyperlinks as many folks are probably accessing them as we write.)

Hope this helps. Your questions are always welcome.

Abrazos,

Matt

There's no problem accessing the map PDF, but the "interactive" locator -- the 2nd hot link in Matt/CasaHoffa's post -- has apparently been quite problematic.

So I suggest that if out-of-towners can't figure out their hotel's location from the map (and haven't already heard the news from the hotel itself), they should ask us in this thread if their hotel is in a Zone A or not.

Nope, that Quality Inn is not in any of the 3 zones :-)

but fyi, Aviation High School, which will be serving as a hurricane shelter for those who need it, would be the closest shelter to your hotel; it's just about a mile away, down Queens Blvd. towards Manhattan.

We will be staying at the Country Inn & Suites on Long Island City (Queens). Address is 34 Crescent Street.

Is is in an evacuation zone?

Hola.

At this hour, the (above) NYC hyperlinks appear to be working well. That said, Catfood, we believe the correct address is 40-34 Crescent Street, Queens. Try it.

Alternatively, give the hotel a call and ask: 718-729-0111

Hope this helps. Your questions are always welcome.

catfood, the Country Inn & Suites is right at the far eastern edge of a Zone C (heavy flooding of streets likely, but not a zone designated for evacuation at this point) & quite close to the Newcomers High School hurricane shelter on that PDF map.
