Saturday night dinner near Central Park

Planning to do a carriage ride after dinner at Central Park so we would like to be within walking distance (4-5 blocks depending upon weather). Two adults and one teenager, Italian or American, upscale with price range of $150-$175 total. No pre-fix. We love quiet and charming atmosphere. Suggestions???

Thanks in advance : )

From a recent review:

"We did the usual touristy things like Times Square, TOTR, Tiffany's and 5th Ave. Central Park was beautiful but we were disappointed in the horse drawn carriage ride. It was $50 for 20 mins but they went so slow and we saw very little of the park. It was better to walk it yourself to be honest."

"Hadn't read any bad reviews about the horse and cart but then It was aspur of the moment thing so hadn't really looked in to it. Hope this helps someone else from being ripped off! Thanks again guys,"

You do realize two carriage horses have collapsed (one died) in the past month, and that the poor dead horse was found to have signs of neglect?

Central Park is two and a half miles long, and a half mile wide. Assuming that your "walking distance" of "4-5 blocks" includes the long blocks between Avenues, you have limited yourself to almost all of Manhattan between 54th Street and 115th Street, from the East River to the Hudson.

Yeah, that really narrows it down....

I dont really understand why people on this forum have to be so sarcastic when answering peoples questions. All one had to say was a few suggestions of nice restaurants near central park, and also to mention its not really a good idea to take a carriage ride because 1, the horses are neglected, and 2, its a rip off!

In addition to the fact that the carriage ride is not recommended because the horses are poorly treated and we don't want to encourage their business.... and you don't get to see much of the park since the carriages are limited to the roadways AND night time is not a good time to do this.....$150-175 is not necessarily going to buy an upscale dinner for 3 with tax and tip let alone a glass of wine or drinks near Central Park South, a high rent district, which is where the carriages line up. BUT, Basso56 might come close to what you want. It's a good Italian and not too far from CPS.

welltravelled, my guess is that OP's planned patronage of something people on the forum generally find reprehensible puts them off from being as helpful as usual, and since OP likes to repost his/her questions many times if he/she is not satisfied with or does not receive enough responses, they have decided at this time to explain why that may be occurring.
