Times Square on New Year's Eve - So, was it worth it?

After reading the annual flurry of questions about attending the festivities at Times Square for New Years, I'm curious to hear from folks that were actually there. Was it worth it? How did you manage all the challenges (no bathrooms, standing for hours, being "trapped" in the pens, etc.)?

You may have to wait a while for this since those people are on their way back to Iowa and South Carolina right now.

Excuse me. NYE in the lowcountry beats that mess any day.

@Shanklemsw - Charleston is one of my favorite places. Wonderful people, delicious food, beautiful city/beaches. I would imagine it's a great place to spend NYE. I posted my question because I really AM interested in what people experienced and how they dealt with it. I could never figure out why people would subject themselves to this "torture"....but, hey, that's me. LOL.

I did it about 1998 with my son. Never again.

Watched the whole thing with Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper last night, at home in front of the TV with my wife. Best NYE ever.

Best NYE quote: "When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible!"

sasha57,

No doubt. I was responding to bil, who can't find his way back to where ever he came from. And knows nothing about where we live.

You can't take those kind of comments from bil seriously. No point.

I think he just meant that only tourists would torment themselves that way, therefore they ARE heading home now (he could have used any number of cities for example, and would have offended someone, but I don't think he meant offense this time - just that they are probably en route home - wherever home is).

But what always amazes me is that all the ones standing out there never look the worse for wear, even at midnight - I'd be crumpled in a heap on the ground.

Of course, they all look 22, too.

I know exactly what he meant.

Too bad he doesn't have my agent. My book was published by Random House!

I was wondering about that too! and they're all gorgeous! do they have a separate area out of camera range for the less attractive ones? they've been standing there for 10 hours and they don't even look like their feet hurt.

I'm curious about how revelers dealt with no access to bathrooms.....and standing for so many hours..... more importantly, would they do NYE in Times Square again?
