-5* Hotel choice Chrismastime

Hi, I want to take my family to New York for about 5 Nights just before Christmas. Children (!) are 18,20 and 22. Need two rooms but three would be better but probably to expensive. We have stayed at the 4 Seasons (bit stuffy), Ritz Carlton (great) Hilton, Avenue of Americas (OK) and somewhere in Soho, but I prefer the Central Park location.

Two children are actors/musical theatre performers so we like to see shows and go shopping. Can anyone recommend a different hotel with great atmosphere and standards in a good location, not too pricey?

Thanks!

"not too pricey" is not a currency. To get specific recommendations it's best to tell us what your budget is per room per night in USD. NYC hotel prices fluctuate significantly and a day or two can make a marked difference. If you know your exact dates, post those as well.

You can also look at hotels on www.booking.com and www.quikbook.com to get an idea of prices at that time.

As Mez3000 points out, not sure what you mean when you say not too pricy, but you mention staying at the Four Seasons and the Ritz Carlton in the past, so, assuming that price range....

How about the Mandarin Oriental? It has a more modern decor, and like the Ritz Carlton, it is on the south end of Central Park. (I'm assuming that's the Ritz you stayed at, vs. the one in Battery Park). You could also consider the Peninsula or the St. Regis, both on 55th Street at 5th Avenue. But these are more traditional than the Mandarin Oriental.

All of these options are an easy walk to Times Square and located near tons of shopping.

The Jumeriah Essex House is just along from the Ritz Carlton (if you stayed at the one near Central Park). It sometimes reasonably priced on websites like booking.com

kayak.com

if you don't need a park view room (those are very pricey). The Helmsley Park Lane is also along there. Decor is extremely dated but that makes room prices much gentler than their fancier neighbors.

6 Columbus and the Empire are smaller trendy boutique hotels near Columbus Circle that will be less expensive.
