Passing through NYC only for 24 hours

Hi...my sister and I are going on a Bermuda cruise that leaves from the manhattan cruise terminal. We are arriving the day before around 9:30am at LGA. Just wanted some guidelines as to how to get to the places we want to go. Our hotel is at The W New York - Downtown in Soho. We are thinking of cabbing from LGA to the hotel first thing to drop off our bags even if our room is not ready yet. We know that we'd like to hit Central Park, Time Square, Broadway - planning to see Wicked at either 2pm or 8pm that day, Serendipity Cafe. Ideally, we don't want to cab everywhere as that would get uber $$$. If anyone has a suggested itinerary and how to get to and from everywhere (foot, subway, etc.), it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Foot and subway are your best bets for getting around. There's plenty of subway choices around Soho.

Times Square is best seen after dark (the lights are more visible and the office workers have all gone home). :-) Combine Times Square with whatever show you see. FYI, "Broadway" is a street that goes through Times Square. I'm not sure what you mean by wanting to visit "Broadway" other than wandering around Times Square and going to see Wicked (which, by the way, is actually on 50th Street between Broadway and 8th Ave).

The south-western corner of Central Park is a 10 minute walk north of Wicked.

Also, consider walking around Soho, the Village, and the Lower East Side/Chinatown. If you're already staying in that neighborhood, it would be a shame to miss it. And, if you would rather see live music in intimate spaces rather than a massive Broadway show (or if you see Wicked at 2 pm instead), that area has plenty of choices. And lots of fun shops open late as well.

Taxi from LGA to the hotel IS the best bet. But make sure you know exactly where your hotel is and it's proper name. The hotel is the W Downtown (there's a different hotel called the W New York) and it's in the financial district NOT Soho. The address is 123 Washington St. but the entrance is on Albany St. Make sure to use an official yellow NYC taxi from the taxi line outside the terminal and don't accept rides from anyone that approaches you.

You should get used to using google maps for directions by subway for getting from point a to point b. For most places you just need to type the name of the place followed by nyc and will get a driving map. You can then click the train icon at top for a subway map with directions.

Wicked regularly sells out so you must buy tickets in advance online or you won't see it at all. The official website is ticketmaster.com

Serendipity is a waste of time and not near anything else you've listed.
