EWR to Midtown - Car service or cab?

Arriving next week and looking for the best way to get from Newark to Midtown. Willing to pay a little more for better service, but not looking to bust our budget first thing out of the gate.

A private car service like

dial7.com

will be cheaper than a taxi. Tip and tolls will make the total come to $65-70. A taxi will cost more than that. There's also train service for ~$12.50/person and an Express bus to Port Authority. Where in midtown are you going?

One other detail: Our plane arrives at 4:30 p.m. Are we facing nightmare traffic? Is the train a better option at that time?

Yes, the train is a much better option at that time in terms of speed.

If you take the train to Penn Station (which should certainly be the fastest way) you then have a couple of options for getting to your hotel.

You could just take a taxi. If you do this exit the station at the 8th Avenue end. 8th Avenue goes uptown, which is the direction you want. There will be plenty of taxis at the exit at 8th Avenue and 33rd St.

You can also just take the subway. Take the uptown E (at the 8th Avenue end of Penn Station) to Lexington Avenue (and 53rd Street) and you'll be very close to your hotel at Lexington and 51st Street. You can actually exit the station at 51st Street if you prefer.

public transportation unless you want to take a cab or car.

For anyone going to the west side, especially downtown the cab is fine.

Public transport , is by far the cheapest. For us, the easiest way has always been, a taxi.
