Vegetarian eating in Manhattan?

I have had a quick look online for most of the food chains available in Times Square (Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Cafe, Ruby Tuesday, Bubba Gump, BK, McDonalds, TFI Friday's etc) and none seem to have a much/any choice for vegetarians. Can anyone recommend any places for a quick bite to eat around Times Square? Thanks

Ugh, stay out of chain restaurants, PLEASE. My favorite vegetarian option near Times Square is one of the Ethiopian restaurants, Queen of Sheba or Meskerem, in the vicinity of 48th and 10th. There are also other good restaurants along 9th Avenue.

The real question is why are you trying to look for good restaurants around Times Square? New York has hundreds and hundreds of the best restaurants in the world, but none of them are in Times Square. Hop on the subway!

There are plenty of veggie options but chains are NOT the place to look.

Within a few blocks of Times Square are a number of deli style eateries that can make you a salad, pasta dish, or sandwich with your choice of ingredients. Again, don't eat in TS proper.

if you were going to London, how much time would you spend in Picadilly? Figure you will want to spend about the same amount of time in Times Square - worth a quick look, but you wont want to spend quality time there. If you're going to the theater, there are better places on 9th or 10th Avenues.

LOL, I thought this was a prank post!

Um, yeah, try NOT looking in chain restaurnts in touristy areas and traps.

Simply typing "NYC vegetarian restaurants" into www.google.com will yield more useful info.

Hola.

For vegetarian come to the East Village; our favorite restaurant here is a vegetarian choice: Angelica Kitchen at 300 East 12th Street (near 2nd Avenue). This place has had a continuous neighborhood following for many, many years and the food is great. Note: cash only.

And for more information, see:

Hope this helps. Your questions are always welcome.

You guys are obviously overlooking the new Premium Southwest Salad from Mcdonalds. Premium greens topped with a snappy mix of fire-roasted corn, savory black beans, poblano peppers, chili lime tortilla strips, and squeeze-it-yourself lime wedge on the side. It is PREMIUM and you can squeeze it yoursef!!!

Need more options?

I liked Vatan (indian). And I would like to try hangawi (korean) next. I am not a vegeterian

So many options.

Around the intersections of Lexington Avenue, 27th Street, and 28th Street are at least four separate Indian vegetarian restaurants.

The Village has plenty of vegetarian restaurants and non-vegetarian places with vegetarian options. Cheap: Red Bamboo. More expensive: Gobo. Slightly outside the Village is Wild Ginger (with another branch in Williamsburg, Brooklyn).

Maoz Falafel is a (worldwide) chain with multiple branches for fast-food falafel in NYC. If you want something better (e.g. not fast food), there are also plenty of choices.

A new vegetarian place (Candle Cafe) just opened on the Upper West Side on Broadway at around 90th Street. There's also plenty other options in that neighborhood, such as Cafe Viva (pizza), Ozu (sort of Japanese), Blossom (vegan American), Peacefoods (vegan American).

If you want more than that, check out http://www.happycow.net for all your worldwide vegetarian needs.
