hotel woes

I am not sure what is going on but hotel prices for October are insane. The crummy place that I stayed at last July for $150 is asking $310!

Can anyone help and/or is anyone familiar with guestmob site? Are they legitimate?

Thanks

Look at staying in Long island City if you're flying into LGA or JFK. The Country Inn & Suites or the Verve.

July is low season, when everyone is away and the weather is unpleasant.

October is high season; everyone is back from vacation, the weaher is great, and (among other things) the UN is in session..

Hotels always charge less in the low season, and more in the high season.

If you want to sleep in a stranger's apartment while that stranger is there, which is legal, that is up to you -- but keep in mind that renting someone's apartment for yourself, without anyone else there, for less than 30 days is illegal.

The price difference is not surprising. July is a discounted time and October is a very high demand time (above average prices0. $150 is way below what you can find for a private bath room in Manhattan for most of the year.

I don't have experience with guestmob, but it seems like it's just another hotel auction site with a few twists and a much lower selection than more established unnamed hotel sites. It would probably work best for lower demand times.
