2nd visit....need inspiration plz

my sister in law and i visited ny about 5 years ago.

we did the usual ....top of the rock, macys, world trade centre, empire state etc....

we actually managed to fit a lot in and we were only there 3 nights!

well, we are going back may 2013 for 5 nights!!!! cant wait, excited already!

we thought we would ask for any suggestions...

we will deffo do woodbury common again as we loved it.

this time we are staying in soho so obviously this will be our base.

we would like to visit a high quality burlesque show and some proper new york bars/clubs....somewhere we can meet the locals and chat.........not the touristy ones.

we went to the comedy in times square last time and would like to do that again butat another venue?

any suggestions would be gratefully recieved...oh and any recommendations for great food places to try around soho.

cheers guys

Here's a calendar of regularly occurring burlesque shows:

www.edbarnas.com/Burlesque/calendar/index.htm

Our favorite is Floating Kabarette, which is a combination of burlesque, aerialists, and cabaret:

A few comedy club ideas:

Comedy Cellar: http://www.comedycellar.com/

Upright Citizens Brigade: http://newyork.ucbtheatre.com/

Gotham Comedy Club: http://gothamcomedyclub.com/

There are literally hundreds of restaurants in and around Soho. It's hard to make recommendations unless you give more specific parameters, like the types of food you are interested in and what your budget/person is.

I would be that you spent most of your time in Manhattan seeing the sights. It is time to spread your wings and discover the rest of NYC. Head to Brooklyn and visit the Botanic Gardens, the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park. If you go on Saturday morning the admission to the Gardens is free - and there is a farmers market at Grand Army Plaza. You can then walk down the hill into Park Slope. Great Shopping on 7th and 5th Ave and the 5th Ave dining scene is one of the best in the City.

Visit Williamsburg. At night the neighborhood comes alive. The Brooklyn Brewery is open Fri night and weekend afternoons. Radegast Hall is a great biergarten with music at night. The new waterfront park offers amazing views of midtown. Bedford Ave pulses with life.

Come to visit DUMBO, where the City lights are beautiful across the river. Head to St. Anns to watch a performance or head to Galapagos, where they often have cabaret acts: galapagosartspace.com/event/lolo-and-the-mid… If you go during the day, there are about a dozen galleries at 111 Front Street - and Jacques Torres Chocolate.

If you are here in the summer, get on a subway and head to Coney Island / Brighton Beach. Ride the Cyclone and the Wonder Wheel. Get food at Nathans Famous or Totonnos. Take a dip in the ocean. Walk down the Boardwalk to Brighton Beach - the largest Russian neighborhood outside the ol' USSR. Get food at M&I International or stop for a meal at Cafe Glechic on Coney Island Ave.

And that is just part of Brooklyn. There is Astoria, Jackson Heights and Flushing Main Street in Queens. Visit Wave Hill in the Bronx. Check out the Tibettan Museum on Staten Island.

Most of all, the second trip is always better than your first one. You know the layout and have already seen most of the "sights." Now is the time to leave the guidebooks behind and just take a walk or two in a great neighborhood. Step off the rock and see the rest of NYC.
