I want lobster

We'll be in NYC in December and I'm beginning my planning for our restaurants. For dinner one night, I want lobster, a big lobster. I've had the lobsters at Spark's and the Palm, but would like to dine somewhere different this trip. Restaurant suggestions for a good lobster dinner will be appreciated.

Similar to your previous experiences, you can have your lobster dinner at any of the large steak places in the city: Smith & Wollensky, Keens, Morton's, etc. You can also get lobster at Ed's Chowder House (in the Upper West Side), which incidentally also serves a delicious New England clam chowder. The Mermaid Inn has a Sunday-only lobsterpalooza, if you're interested in a more casual, New England style lobster dinner. And of course, there's Luke's Lobster for lobster rolls that are out of this world good!

I would also suggest:

City Crab

City Lobster

BLT Fish

I think The Oyster Bar inside of Grand Central also serves lobster.

For a different lobster experience, how about Francisco's Centro Vasco, on 23rd Street just east of Seventh AVenue?

GWB beat me to it - love Centro Vasco! Nice 3 pounder, broiled with the breadcrumbs, the shrimp in green sauce, shrimp in garlic sauce, the little chorizo, and the salad and bread - awesome!

At the Brooklyn Flea you can get a great lobster roll from the Red Hook Lobster Co. It's a lot more convenient than having to bike into Red Hook for one.

I know it is not fancy, but I was really impressed by The Lobster Place at the Chelsea Market. They had a huge pile of lobsters, sold by the pound. And they prepared them to eat there. Everything seemed so fresh!

Wow, GWB, looks like Centro Vasco is just the ticket. Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions. I may have to figure in more than one night of lobsters!
