Buying food - midtown area

Hello, we'll be in NYC mid town for a month from mid December. We've booked an apartment (in a hotel) and plan to be able to eat in a bit. Can anyone provide information about where to buy fruit and vegetables and other food stuffs in the mid town area ( ~ 58th and 5th).

I did a search and found the 57th Fruit & Vegetable Market at 363 W 57th St.....it looks like the closest? What is it like?

You're welcome. I just reread your original post and saw that you will be here in December. The greenmarket might not be open in December. It's more of a spring through fall place to shop.

Whole Foods is more expensive and more gourmet than Trader Joe's. The selection of fruit and veggies are exceptional at Whole Foods. Trader Joe's has a good selection of fruit and veggies, but they they have a great selection of packaged food, cheeses, frozen foods, and beverages.

Prices for many products at Trader Joe's are far below those at most of the markets in Manhattan. They have some products that are prepared by well known companies and sold under Trader Joe's private label, although Trader Joe's also sells name brands.
