New York to DC

Hello

I've left it a little late booking amtrak tickets from NYC to DC. Flying is around $60 cheaper (total for 2 of us). Once you add on the various cabs it probably works out about the same though, so is there any point flying, or should we just stick to Amtrak?

Thanks

Stick to Amtrak. City center to city center without all the wasted time dealing with transportation and security at the airports.

It depends. Which airports would you use in New York and Washington if you fly? Which airline?

Amtrak trains are also a lot more comfortable than planes.

If it were Reagan Airport, then it'd be a better choice, as it is close to the City. With Dulles as your choice, I'd not bother as it is a fair trek away, unless you're a Delta SkyMiles member and you want the extra miles.

Dulles is really ncostner close to DC. if you are going to fly, only pick Reagan National. If Dulles is your option, take the train

Agreed. Dulles is 30+ miles from Washington and not well served by public transportation. Take the train.

We just did this --- Penn Station to Union Station. Very comfortable, easy to sleep on the train, easy to get out of your seat to stretch ---- or to hit the rest room or club car for a snack.

Dulles is very inconvenient and, with Amtrak, you start in the middle of everything and end up in the middle of everything, with no awkward transitions. Amtrak -- no question.

Amtrak prices vary train by train depending on demand. You can check fares for all trains for any time period up to 30 days for any city pair at:

Enter NYP as the departure station and WAS as the arrival station.
