Traditional cheap & cheerful Thanksgiving dinner in New York

Never experienced Thanksgiving dinner- so looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful in New York (Manhattan) for this. Can anyone help please? Opentable shows nice pricey and posh ones, or ones with a twist- but I can't see any cheap american ones? Ideally a family style diner or something? Thanks

Any diner will serve a Thanksgiving dinner, with sliced turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, etc. I'm not clear if that's what you're looking for, though: what kind of budget are you thinking about?

I was hoping for something under 30 dollars per person. Everytime I click on a menu on open table (and it takes a long time!) I see places that do fancy things with the turkey and fancy trimmings. I am looking for somewhere homely, not contemporary, and good food without the frills

A diner on Thanksgiving is about as far from "cheerful" as I can imagine, but YMMV.

Kefi, a much-loved Greek restaurant on the Upper West Side, is doing a three-course menu for $25.95. While some of the options for each course are Greek, they are doing roasted turkey with mashed potatoes and vegetables as a main:

That's probably as cheap as you can get in a regular restaurant (not a diner). There are plenty of places that are not doing anything fancy and that you'd would probably enjoy, if you could just raise your budget to a more realistic amount. ($30/person is about what you'd expect to pay at an average neighborhood restaurant on a normal night, not on Thanksgiving.)

For instance, Friend of a Farmer is probably the homiest restaurant in New York; the food will be completely traditional and non-fancy. It costs $55.95/person, though:

Don't forget that the $25.95 mentioned above does NOT include tax or tip. By the time you are done you are talking about $34-35 per head.

Speaking as a child of brits, I think you would really enjoy Friend of a Farmer. If you can make your budget work, I think you would be really pleased.

Enjoy!
