Too Much for a Wknd? Please Critique My Itinerary

I've done quite a bit of research for my Thu Night - Sunday Afternoon birthday trip this Spring.

Now that I have a draft together, I'd like to ask for some advice with the following:

- is my timing realistic for a first-time visitor?

- would you swap anything around (day or time)?

- would you add/drop anything from the list?

Here's are the deets:

HOME BASE: Chelsea (we'll get into town around 4:30 PM Thu and need to head out around 2PM Sun)

ABOUT US: Mid-20s Couple

TRANSPORTATION: Cabs when Needed (e.g., airport, late at night), taking Subway or walking for the rest of it

THURSDAY - EVENING

- Empire State Building

- NY Public Library

- Grand Central Station

FRIDAY - DAY 1

- Brooklyn Bridge

- Staten Island Ferry

- Financial District

- 9/11 Memorial

- St. Paul’s Chapel

- Chinatown

FRIDAY - NIGHT

- MOMA (TBD)

- Tribeca Film Festival (TBD - 1 film)

- Birthday Dinner

- Terra Blues (TBD)

SATURDAY – DAY 2

- Top of the Rock

- Central Park

- MET

- Museum of Natural Hist

SATURDAY – NIGHT

- Time Square

- Broadway Show

SUNDAY – MORNING

- High Line

- Chelsea Market

If you're wondering where we're planning to eat, I mapped a bunch of places along/near our routes and plan to decide where to go when we're there (good approach, bad approach?). Here's some names:

Margon

Ming Du

Murray’s Bagels

Joe’s Pizza

Doughnut Plant

Adrienne’s Pizza Bar

Zucker’s Bagels

Rocking Horse Café

Shake Shack

Katz’s

Russ & Daughters

Defonte’s

NY Noodletown

Penelope

La Bonne Soupe

Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory

Rubiroa

Porchetta

Casa Adela

The Birthday dinner is a different story, still working on that and taking suggestions. Here are some possible options: Sazon

Locanta Verde, Crispo, Kefi, Pipa, Estancia 460.

For Dinner, budget is to stay under $75 p/p (inc. tip/taxes).

Your help VERY MUCH appreciated!

The library will be closed by the time you get there.

Guess you are going to be here very late April since the Tribeca Film Festival doesn't happen until then.

No need for cabs beyond to and from the airport.

The Met is open later than Natural History on Sat so I would swap them.

Have fun planning

Thanks!

The nypl site currently lists the library hours 'till 11PM on Thursdays. Do they change for Spring?

Good tip on the museums!

Yep, we'll be there during the 2013 dates for Tribeca.

Thanks, again.

This is the one you actually want to visit -

The other is just a lending library.

You seem to have it down. Katz is over priced. SI ferry is the best free thing in NYC. The lower manhattan area can be done in 1 day it looks good from a native ( brooklynite) new yawker

Saturday looks too busy to me. Perhaps see one museum, take in Central Park, and then add the other museum as an "optional". I have realized that adding in an "optional" takes the pressure off running from one thing to the next, which is tempting to do when there are so many things to see.

Also build in some "unscheduled" time, so you can explore as the mood takes you. Again, have a list of options, but just decide on the day.

We visited the High Line and Chelsea Market after a boat cruise. I was surprised at how small the Chelsea Market was, so it might leave you with extra time on that day if you are up early.

PS. I would walk around Times Square after your Broadway show. We had cheesecake at Juniors after the two shows we saw in October. Great cheesecake and a fun way to end the night! (They are famous for their cheesecake, the other options on the menu are rather forgettable).

Thanks for the tips! I've made some changes to our itinerary and added some food options!

There more I look at Saturday, the more I think I we're going to have to drop one of the museums. I'm thinking of choosing The Met vs. The Museum of Nat Hist?

Also thinking making top of the rock an optional stop, since we would have already done the empire state building on the first night.

Thoughts?
