train to NYC

We will be taking the train to NYC for the weekend to see a couple of plays. Would it be easier to stay at hotel close to station since will have luggage or to stay in Times Square closer to plays?

I would stay close to the theaters. You can get a taxi to your hotel from the train station.

I agree. While the train station is onlt a short subway ride to the theater district, it will be easier to be able to walk to the tehaters and there,s a better choice of restaurants in the theater district. You don't have to stay right in TS to be close.

There are specials for the Mela and the Sofitel on

Travelzoo.com

Both within a short walk of most theaters.

If you have a fair amount of luggage you may prefer to just take a taxi from Penn Station to your hotel. (Given your location I'm assuming you're coming in to Penn Station rather than Grand Central.)

Times Square is north of Penn Station, so exit Penn Station on the 8th Avenue side. There is a short escalator from the Amtrak concourse to 8th Avenue and 33rd Street, where you'll find lots of taxis.

Thank you for the replies. We will look for hotel near Times Square and plan on taking taxi from train. First time to go to NYC by train so just unsure which would be best.
