Using camera (DSLR) in January weather?

I have a DSLR (T2i) that is weather rated for 32F as a minimum operating temperature.

NYC in January is on average about 30F per weather.com

I am aware of the condensation dangers from moving a camera from a cold place to a warm place; some people use a plastic bag to put the camera in so it can gradually warm up to the temperature.

That said, I have never actually used my camera in cold weather.

Has anyone with a DSLR done this?

How do you deal with frequently switching from going outside and inside and vice versa?

Did you damage your camera or lens in any way?

I think in NYC you'll be fine. The only problem I ever had with mine was in Iceland, in much colder temperatures than that, when it was sleeting. (I fixed it by taking everything apart and leaving it in my hotel room over night to both dry and warm up.)

I've never had a problem iwth it in NYC.

I also use a DSLR outside in winter all the time in NYC and have never had a problem.

The only time I've had this problem was in Orlando, going from a air-con filled villa outside into the blistering heat.

To avoid condensation I suggest taking camera out of case.

Do that upon return to your room.

Or any heated area if possible when coming in from the cold.

My Canon SD780 is also rated at "Working Temperature" of 32 deg.F. and I have used it extensively in the cold of NYC.... it was about ZERO deg. on the top of the Empire State Bldg, with a 40 mph wind, on my 1st trip there, and I had no problems at all ...except frozen fingers when I took off my gloves to shoot the pictures.

I believe you will have no problems. Take some great pics to share with us!
