Taking Adult-ish teen to NYC

So - my challenge - my 15 year old daughter, edgy, smart and sophisticated by 15 year old terms - is looking for "something exciting" to do in NY. Funny, eh?

I can choose shops and restaurants and theater but when it comes to showing her something "cool", I"m at a loss.

Add that to the fact that she can't go clubbing yet (I guess it wouldn't be appropriate to get my teenager a fake ID...) I need ideas for things to do in the evening.

We already have tickets to Book of Mormon but that's only one night out of four. We are booked in a midtown hotel but am thinking of moving downtown a bit.

IDEAS!?!? Help!

Hard to imagine how to answer this without knowing what she is interested in - fashion/photography/art/music/etc? A few clues will help people offer some useful suggestions - I assume you have already given her a guidebook so she can begin to get an idea of options - maybe have her take a look at an online source like Timeout New York -

All teens think they're edgy, smart, and sophisticated.

Look at www.highfivetix.org - they have some pretty cool stuff sometimes.

Seems like a great opportunity for her to do some online research and come up with suggestions.

One idea would be Cafe Wha? in the Village. You might want to check what's going on in galleries during your stay. Also consider seeing STOMP.

She might like the FIT's museum (fashion):

And then, of course, there are so many different types of art galleries and museums and she can see what is on at them by looking at various online sites to see what is showing when you are here.

Comedy Clubs like National Comedy theater and most jazz clubs will happily allow a 15 yr old with adult.

bigapplejazz.com

has a jazz bible with listings of various clubs.

cafewha.com

is another idea for all ages.

Sleep No More is an extremely edgy theater experience. I don't think there's an age limit but check.

There are poetry slams

Avenue Q off Broadway is another idea. You should be able to find discounts on the left column of broadwaybox.com

If she likes to shop take her to Soho. Lots of small stores with new designers and giant Hollister and Abercrombie's. It doesn't matter that the mall has a Hollister or A & F, my daughter still buys something in the N.Y. stores. Then hop over to Chinatown for some Dim Sum. We took a shopping tour with Shop Gotham several years ago and my daughter enjoyed that. I don't know if they are still in operation. Go to Fifth Ave and walk around. Stop in Henry Bendel's ( My daughter liked Gossip Girls). You could try The View restaurant on top of the Marriott Marquis. The resturant is on the top floor and rotates while you eat. They have a buffet for around 35 to 40 dollars or you could do the cheese and dessert buffet for around 19. ( Double check the prices. I am working from memory) She will have fun no matter what you decide, it's New York!
