new york at night...........

Hi guys, me and a friend of mine are heading to New York in August and are planning what all to do during the day, but at night we're not really sure what all we could do and see.

I am 25 and my friend is 26 so we are looking for fun bars, clubs, tasty restaurants and other fun stuff to do.

We are thinking of seeing a broadway show and maybe a game of some type so if anyone can help us choose a show or game it would really help us.

Thanks people.....

P.S...we're both from ireland so do the bars/clubs/restaurants except our driving licence's for i.d... thanks again

You really haven't given us much to go on. There are huge numbers of good to outstanding restaurants. Cuisine? Price point? Casual or trendy? Where?

A show is a great idea. Google for current shows, read about them and decide which ones sound most exciting to you. We don't know enough about you to choose. Also keep budget in mind. Some shows are hugely popular and never get discounted, and others can have discounted tickets available.

For games, look at who is playing home games for your dates. It may be early to see complete schedules for everything.

Use your passport as proof of drinking age. If the place is strict about ID, a foreign driver's license won't do.

Some tourist attractions are great at night. Empire State Building, taking a look at Times Square, the Staten Island Ferry, walking the Brooklyn Bridge to view the nighttime Manhattan skyline. There are also some nighttime walking tours with various themes. A comedy club might be another idea. Walking various lively neighborhoods at night is fun too (especially if you are bar hopping).

Chances are you'll be exhausted from your daily walking adventures and will be happy finding a tasty dinner and a nice bar or two for a few drinks. You may not want major scheduled activities every night.

There are several great nighttime areas of Brooklyn that would be well worth checking out. Both have lots of good reasonable restaurants and both have great bars.

Williamsburg is the larger of the two. It is the home of the Brooklyn Brewery which is open on weekends. It has Radegast Hall and Lorely which are beer gardens. There seem to be bars wherever you look. Lots of good music in places like Union Pool, Trash Bar, Grand Victory, Knitting Factory and the WBurg Music Hall. Or just head to everyones fave dive bar - the Turkey's Nest. [L to Bedford.]

Park Slope is smaller and has fewer annoying hipsters. The Fifth Ave bar scene is great and getting better every day. Especially if you are fans of beer. Places like Biercraft will amaze you. My favorites include The Gate, Union Hall and High Dive. But there are literally dozens of watering holes. [R to Union and Walk up the hill to 5th Ave]

There are two basketball teams that play in NYC, and these days both are playing good basketball. These are the NY Knicks and the new Brooklyn Nets. There are also college games with teams like St. Johns, Fordham and LIU. Hockey looks like it may also be starting up post lock out.

Of course, some of the best views of the City are after dark. The view from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade is outstanding, and then walk back across the Brooklyn Bridge. You can eat in Chinatown which is only five minutes from the Manhattan side of the bridge.
