Century 21 down in the financial district is a great bargin hunt designer store , You do have to dig through the racks , but you will find some good bargins at up to 90 % off.

Buddakan is the restaurant that Carrie and Big had there engagement party, a friend of mine had her birthday there and said it was amazing.

There are some good discount/cheaper stores in Chelsea - we walked up 6th from about 14th to 34th and managed to grab a few nice bits (not too expensive)!

I have shopped for my girlfriend at the H&M stores and found some real bargains... for example- a dress she can wear ballroom dancing for $5.00, a complete mix and match summer outfit for about $22.00.

There are a number of these stores in Midtown.

Century 21 and Buddakan are great suggestions.

For discount designer stuff, check out sample sales, too. Time Out New York publishes an ongoing list, which you could review right before your trip:

Although "sale" sometimes has a different meaning depending on your financial POV (e.g. "originally $1,200, now only $750", ha ha) I've bought some super-cheap fun accessories at sample sales, I've also enjoyed trying on a season's failed fashions for a laugh. You know, that great jacket in a sickly green fabric.

Agreed- Century 21 and Buddakan are excellent suggestions!

I also recommend Tribeca Canvas (Morimoto's new restaurant) for dinner and Beauty and Essex for cocktails and fun. Have a blast!
