Restaurants near Affinia Dumont?

Will be in NYC for three days/four nights and would love some restaurant suggestions. We expect to spend our days traipsing all over the city so we'd like to have dinners near our hotel. Staying at the Affinia Dumont on 34th and Lex. Any suggestions for good mid-priced restaurants (no chains!) within a few blocks walk? Italian, Indian, Mexican and seafood are our favorites.

If you walk down Lexington to the high 20s (27th-29th), you'll find a bunch of Indian restaurants. (This area is sometimes called "Curry Hill.") This is best spot in town for southern Indian restaurants (Chennai Garden, Tiffin Wallah, Saravanas, Pongal), but there are also Gujarati (Bhojan and, over on 3rd, Vatan), Hyderabadi (Chote Nawab), Chettinad (Anjappar), and pan-Indian (Dhaba) places as well. There's also a decent Singaporean restaurant in the mix (Singapura).

Thanks Crans! Any suggestions for other-than-Indian in the area?

Have you looked at menupages.com in the east 30's? That's a good area for Indian as there's an Indian section on Lexington ave. into the 20's.

Serge Bistro is good French

Thanks NYWhiz. Will check out Sapori. (We don't really eat steak or French food.)

So we've learned that you don't like Indian, steak or French food. Why not tell forum members what type of food you want?

No - we LOVE Indian. As I said in my first post, Indian, Italian, Mexican and seafood are our favorites. Also love Kosher Deli and am thrilled we will be around the corner from Second Avenue Deli!

More ideas:

Cafe China (Sichuan, our current favorite Sichuan restaurant): http://cafechinanyc.com/

Ai Fiori (one of the best Italian restaurants in the city, very expensive): http://www.aifiorinyc.com/

Hangawi (Korean vegetarian): http://www.hangawirestaurant.com/

Resto (Belgian, a perennial 'best burger' name): http://www.restonyc.com/

The Cannibal (Resto spinoff butcher shop-bar-restaurant): http://www.cannibalnyc.com/

Vezzo (thin crust pizza): http://vezzothincrust.com/

Trattoria Belvedere (modestly priced and simple Italian, went through a period of intense popularity on the forum a few years ago): menupages.com/restaurants/…

Turkish Kitchen (what it sounds like): http://www.turkishkitchen.com/

Num Pang (Cambodian sandwiches): http://www.numpangnyc.com/

Bamiyan (Afghan): http://www.bamiyan.com/

There are a couple of margarita-mill Mexican places nearby: Caliente Cab Company and Blockheads Burritos. Neither are where I'd go for good Mexican food, personally, but they are near the hotel.

Awesome! Thanks again. One more question, any good breakfast places? Anyone know if the Barking Dog next to the hotel is good for breakfast?

I can't speak to the Barking Dog, but Penelope is very, very popular for breakfast:

Dos Caminos is a mini-chain, but I like their Mexican food pretty well - it's on Park between 26th & 27th:
