When to go to Carlos Bakery

Hello! I have posted this in the Hoboken forum but had no replies so I thought I'd try it here!

Me and my sister are travelling from England to go to new york and want to go to the shop. We go mid may, is that a busy time? What day and time is best to go when the queues are arent long? Also, can I expect to see any of the family there? Thanks guys.

My understanding is that the queues are always long, and you don't often see the family these days. Also, the baked goods aren't great. Sorry to be discouraging, but if you search "carlo's" on this forum you'll see past reports from people who've gone, and you can judge for yourself.

On the other hand I went a couple of years back on a weekday morning in late November, there were only 10 or so people in front of us in the queue (which was entirely contained within the shop) and were served within 10 minutes. We did see one of the family (Madeline - the others were off filming Next Great Baker I think). The cakes/pastries were indeed mediocre and you can't see any of the impressive decorated cakes etc, so if either of those aspects are your reasons for going I'd think twice. However we just wanted to go out of curiosity having watched the show, and then we ate some baked goods down by the Hudson with a view of Manhattan. It was a nice morning.

Yes, several years ago I would occasionally read reports from people who had short lines. I haven't seen any such reports for a while now.

My 13yo researched this extensively just last week. All on her own she concluded that it would be a waste of time. Long lines, no family members and we've got great Italian Bakeries where we live.

I also think it's a waste of time to go and so do many other people who wrote reviews here

BUT it's your trip and if you'd like to go, at that time of year I HIGHLY recommend taking the ferry in at least one direction, probably coming back to NYC. It's a lovely way to travel and you'll get some great views. So take the PATH train there and the ferry back.

First thing in the morning right before they open is usually a good time to go anywhere for shortest wait time.

The lines are long.

It is a long walk to the Waterways ferry.

Really is a waste of your vacation time.
