Getting to Brooklyn side of bridge

Trying to find out what the 'train' is that goes from Manhattan to the Brooklyn side of the bridge. We want to ride over to Brooklyn and walk the bridge back. We will be staying near the W 57/7 st metro. Is this the A/C train I have read about? sorry to be so dumb....

FYI, it's called the "Subway" or perhaps the "MTA" (which also includes buses), not the "Metro". If you ask for help finding your way on the Metro, no one will know what you are talking about. From the 57th St / 7th Ave station, I would walk one block east to 6th Ave and catch the F train going Downtown.

Ride it all the way to York St Station (in Brooklyn) and it's just a short walk from there to the bridge. Follow York St west (its preferred direction since it is one way) for about three blocks, turn left (south) on Washington, and walk straight ahead about a block or so to the Bridge. There will probably be a lot of other people headed that same way most likely - just follow the signs to the Brooklyn Bridge Stairs.

Many people like to combine visiting the Brooklyn Bridge with other Downtown attractions such as the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, or the Trade Center Site. If you are so inclined, just walk up Broadway to Park and take the 2/3 train to Clark Street. From there, make a left on Henry Street and cross Old Fulton Street to Washington. Make a right on Washington and take the stairs to the Bridge.

That's a good point BrooklynMel. Last time we walked the Bridge, we did it at dusk, at the end of a day where we also visited Battery Park, the 9/11 Memorial, South St Seaport, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and then had a late lunch and walkabout in DUMBO (this was pre-Sandy of course - best to check on what is open before making definite plans). Also from the Clark St Station you can also easily walk the Brooklyn Heights Promenade before coming back to the Bridge.
