Renting an apartment in New York

My wife and I are in our late 50s and planning first trip to NY. We like to be close to the action, cafes, delis, bars, people watching etc but obviously in a safe area. Keen to rent an apartment for 2 weeks; not afraid to use public transport. So which area can anyone suggest that we start looking at for accommodation?.

1. Re: Renting an apartment in New York

Renting appartments for less than 30 days is generally illegal in NYC. (See the top FAQs). A lot of them are outright scams too (lots of posts about that!) The easiest way to get a legal apartment is to look for hosted (where you stay with the owner.)

Hope that helps

OR, there are legal apartment hotels and there are b & b's that are very similar to renting an apt. An idea of your budget and fates will help us help you. There's no one best area. There's action in most places. Here are a few options to look at

Hotels

Nycsalisbury.com

Radiocityapartments.com

Affinia.com

Best Western Hospitality.com

Beaconhotel.com

B &b's

West-eleventh.com

Listen to nywhiz.

Apartment rentals are illegal for holiday stays - alot of people get scammed and lose everything. Don't do it.
