Port authority to EWR during rush hour

Hello. We will be in nyc in June and about 3 blocks from Port authority. Our EWR flight is at 7:20pm on a Tuesday. It seems the Newark airport express bus has deteriorated based on recent reviews. Can you suggest a better alternative to travel to EWR at around 5pm from Port authority area without breaking the bank (budget is max $45 for 2 people). We also have 2 medium luggages. Also, what time should we leave NYC? Thanks so much

Take the train. Walk or take the subway to Penn Station, and get a NJTransit train to Newark Liberty station. Change there for the AirTrain to your terminal. Tickets are $12.50 per person. You want to be at Penn Station about an hour before you have to be at the airport.

The train is the fastest, safest, most reliable, and the most economical way to go.

You take NJ Transit from New York Penn Station to Newark Airport. The monorail (called AirTrain Newark) takes you into the terminal.
