NYC - Simply the Best

After 5 nts/6 days, we have returned home in the knowledge that it has been our best City break so far. Reviews to follow on places we went but some of the highlights were;

Hotel Beacon and the UWS; just the perfect place to stay with the local orientated restaurants/shops, liquor store/Fairway Deli and Subway, Central Park /Museums on your doorstep.

Jean Georges for Dinner - WOW!.

Benjamins steaks/Oysters - also wow.

Lunch at Porterhouse NYC in Columbus Circle; a table overlooking the Park, Clam chowder/Caesar Salad then Fillet Mignon to die for/Baked Salmon with NYC Cheescake/Raspberry Sorbet all for $25 each!!! (the best value we found) with a great wine list.

Celeste/Freds for dinner in UWS - really good.

The Museums (and my poor legs/feet!!)

The Shops!!

And finally - the Empire state Building - the crowning glory

I can't wait to read your trip report and other reviews. Porterhouse sounds great but looks quite formal. Would there be any problem in rocking up there in casual clothes after a morning in central Park?

Stlgr7 - Dont know about evenings but at lunchtime, there is no dress code in Porterhouse and its not at all formal. We wandered in in jeans, comfy shoes and a shirt and had no probs. Everyone else inside was dressed simiarly. We had just walked down the park, did some shopping in the Circle then looked for somewhere to eat. Had a look at the menu at Per Se and thought $295 was a tadge high (lol - although to be fair i think that was for the evening) so $25 for 3 courses in Porthouse was a bargain - esp the view.

Great tip about Porterhouse. Do you know what time the lunch menu runs to?

We got there at 2.45 and they were taking the special lunch menu away and said only the normal menu now applied. We queried this and they allowed us in ( manager said was ok) so latest I would leave it would be 2.30
