My 2.5 day NYC food trip with pictures!

So I was looking for something different to do on a trip and decided to just go somewhere and eat. I figured NYC would be a pretty good place to go so I scoured reddit, yelp, urbanspoon etc for some hot spots to eat and made a list that filled the 2.5 days.

I broke each day into different categories, Monday was jewish delis, sandwiches, hamburger, and some bakeries. Tuesday was my Asian day and Wednesday was my Pizza day. The following list are the places and foods I ordered based on opinions and suggestions.

Monday for breakfast I visited several locations and had a picnic @ Central Park great lawn.

Breakfast

http://i.imgur.com/odxg3LWh.jpg

2nd Avenue Deli - Potato Knish, rounded and Squared

Ess-a-Bagel - Lox on everything bagel http://i.imgur.com/Ebv1yUnh.jpg

Absolute Bagel - Everything bagel with onion and chive cream cheese

Zabars - Potato Knish, Spinach Knish, Cheese Blintz

Levain Bakery - Chocolate Chip Cookie http://i.imgur.com/ZYOZCc8h.jpg

Beard Papas - Regular cream puff, cocoa puff, dulce de leche, and green tea. http://i.imgur.com/NDIp3pZh.jpg

I wasnt a big fan of any of the knishes. The everything bagel from ess-a-bagel was a little bit on the salty side but I did enjoy it. I also disliked the green tea cream puff from Beard Papa's but absolutely loved the dulce de leches. The chocolate chop cookie from Levain bakery was amazing.

Lunch

Katz Deli - Pastrami on Rye http://i.imgur.com/v1E5703h.jpg

Parm - Meatball Sandwich http://i.imgur.com/7N24luph.jpg

The meatball sandwich was pretty good and the pastrami on rye was as well.

Dinner

Minetta Tavern - Black Label Burger

http://i.imgur.com/SWeeOhoh.jpg

Korzo Haus - The original burger http://i.imgur.com/Q1355Ach.jpg

Big Gay Ice Cream - The salty pimp and the Monday Sundae http://i.imgur.com/BWM9eXyh.jpg

Breslin Bar - Lamb burger http://i.imgur.com/kDJmNDRh.jpg

I really really enjoyed the black label burger and the fries reminded me of the flavor of lays potato chips. The korzo haus burger wasnt bad but didnt blow me away. Reminded me of a monte cristo sort of.

The salty pimp and monday sundae were so good. I prefered the Monday Sundae over the salty pimp and liked it so much I went back Wednesday to get some ice cream before I left.

Night ended with a lamb burger from the bresling bar. The burger was so good. I would def go back to get that burger again.

Tuesday Asian food day.

Breakfast Had a little picnic at the Columbus park. http://i.imgur.com/V6dyeBFh.jpg

Fai Da Mott - Steamed pork bun, roasted pork bun, roasted red bean bun, steamed red bean bun, coconut bun, and a coconut butter cream bun.

Taipan Bakery - Egg Tart

Mei Li Wah - Steamed pork bun and a pineapple bun.

http://i.imgur.com/bWMXFY8h.jpg http://i.imgur.com/WYFrQsKh.jpg

I never knew what any of these items were but I loved every single one of them except for the red bean ones, not a fan of red bean. The roasted and steamed pork buns from Fai Da mott were so good and cheap I was really impressed and the pineapple bun from Mei Li Wah was awesome.

Lunch

Prosperity Dumpling - steamed and fried pork and chive dumpling. http://i.imgur.com/ui4avXch.jpg

Joe's Shanghai - pork and crab xiao long boa. http://i.imgur.com/RDCnYCbh.jpg

Xi'an Famous Foods - N9 Hand pulled noodles with pork http://i.imgur.com/FKShE38h.jpg

Everything I had was terrific.

Dinner

Takashi - Yooke and madagacar ice cream. http://i.imgur.com/q5Lwvklh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8bObGJnh.jpg

Sushi Azabu - Koi Platter and side of Uni Local http://i.imgur.com/LFhNNnHh.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8BJKcwch.jpg http://i.imgur.com/wtP223Zh.jpg

Sushi Yasuda - Omakase

http://i.imgur.com/O8OMYEks.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/NpQ2VRz.jpg

I went to Takashi for two things, the madagascar ice cream and the Niku-Uni. I had arrived when they opened and was told they were out of Niku-Uni since it was busy over the weekend. I was pretty bummed because thats the only thing I wanted so I just ordered some random thing. The Yooke was raw meat with a quail egg mixed into it. It was unique and tasted pretty good but I really wanted the Niku Uni. The ice cream was also decent but I prefered Big gay ice cream more.

Sushi Azabu - the koi sushi dish was very good, I am not familiar with higher end sushi and enjoyed the little dash of wasabi they apply to them. I was fortunate enough that they had Uni because I never had it before and thats all I ever heard people talking about and it was pretty good.

Sushi Yasuda - I went there to get the omakase experience since I never done it before. I was told they were out of uni which was pretty disappointing. The food was good, however if I was blindfolded I wouldnt be able to tell the difference between Azabu and Yasuda.

Wednesday

Breakfast

Clinton St Bakery - Walnut and banana pancakes and sugar cured bacon http://i.imgur.com/OXt4AsYh.jpg

Dougnut Plant - Tres Leches, creme brule , peanut butter and jelly donut. http://i.imgur.com/N43tVfah.jpg

Peter Pan Donuts - Bavarian volcano, white cream volcano, bavarian cream donut. http://i.imgur.com/vSFZyU1h.jpg

The pancake at Clinton st was great, it had a unique flavor to it and the syrup was so good. I liked the bacon alot more then the pancake.

I liked the variety of choices from Doughnut plant a little bit more then Peter Pan Donuts. The white chocolate volcano from Peter pan was really good though and peter pan is really cheap.

Lunch

Difara Pizza - Square and regular peperoni. http://i.imgur.com/X7jF8wch.jpg http://i.imgur.com/w7wIheWh.jpg

L&B Spumoni Gardens - Square and regular cheese.

http://i.imgur.com/xAp9pjBh.jpg

Both places were good, I prefered L&B a little bit more then Difara's.

I had alot more pizza places lined up for Wednesday but I had to wrap things up short so I wouldnt miss my flight since it left early in the afternoon. I had planned to go to Lombardi's as well as Totonnos. Maybe next time.

To wrap it up, #1 was the chocolate chip cookie from Levain Bakery. Another favorite was Chinatown bakeries. The black label burger from minetta and lamb burger from breslin were among my favorites.

If anyone is wondering, I gained around 7 pounds.

Wow.....I can't wait till August. We are foodies and your pictures and descriptions are mouth watering. Thank you for sharing. I was also watching the Chew and saw the cronut, I made a mental note to go there, and hope that by August the hype has calm down. Can't wait to see what you post in July....just in time before our trip.

Hmmm - doesn't sound too exciting to me. In any case, there's nothing, and I mean nothing, that I'd stand in a line like that for.

I have to say I've been delighted to be carried along with your food postings! It's been fun. When you have your first Cronut let us know what you think of it.

I'll wait for things to come down before I try it, but yes the cronut is the lastest craze here. Once in a while Dominique Ansel invents something so you gotta give them the credit.

And right across the street is my new favorite restaurant in NYC

Ahhm, I'm taking a big risk posting this link as you are about to see why

Well Ziggy, another fine blog post, that steak is to die for.

And for someone who does a lot of face stuffing like shanghei did, you don't seem to stack on 7 pounds very easily ;-)

As for the cronut, it looks very light, a bit like the lightness of Krispy Kreme. Those were a big fad here with long lines but seem to have faded away now.

And it was to die for Aynat. Maybe the best steak I ever had.

And ye, Mr White actually makes me look skinny and semi presentable I look much more hideous in person

Make rezzies now at Costata before it gets too popular

Xi'an pulled noodles were amazing! I made a special trip to get some last May and walked in circles, in the pouring rain for about an hour before I found the place! So worth the trip!
