Chinatown is mostly about grim and dated restaurants, but some of them have really great food. For prettier Chinese restaurants, you may need to go elsewhere in the city.

100% dated and grim, but you will get the feel of a real chinatown experience and good food....Wo Hop 15 Mott street ( DOWNSTAIRS Location!, there are two Wo Hops at 15 Mott street , one at street level and one downstairs) Enjoy.

I dont mind grim looking or dated to a degree as long as the food is good and im not going to be stuck in the restroom for the next day.

Some of the best food in Chinatown is Vietnamese. I highly recommend Nam Son on Grand St, between Bowery and Chrystie. Or for a grimy hole in the wall with very good very cheap dumplings try Prosperity Dumplings on Eldridge St. about three blocks away. It is not too far from the Tenement Museum.

Just pick the grim and dated one that is full of locals.
