JFK taxis

Hello,

My son is traveling to New York soon and will be arriving at JFK airport arriving at Midday on a Wednesday and staying at Brooklyn Heights , Brooklyn.

Is it best to catch a yellow cab as he will have quite a bit of luggage and also how much is the fare and if tipping what is the norm!!

He will be staying there for 6mths and travelling in to lower manhattan on a daily basis mon-fri by public transport what are his options and approx weekly or monthly fare cost.

Thank you to all that reply, keep up the good work!! Bob Essex UK

The monthly MetroCard is $112. for 30 days of unlimited rides.

Subways are very safe and they operate 24 / 7.

Coming in from JFK, simply use a yellow taxi if you have a ton of luggage. Do not accept rides from the touts at the airport - use only a yellow taxi from the taxi rank where the uniformed dispatcher is positioned.

I will also add that getting from Bk Heights to lower Manhattan is pretty quick and easy depending on where he will be working. Do you have the location? The F, A,C, 2,3 4,5 trains all can be accessed from Bk Heights.

Also agree that getting a monthly Metrocard is best.

Very, very easy. Just go to the taxi queue and get in a cab that the dispatcher assigns you. DO NOT get in a car with anyone who asks if you need a ride.
