Area around giraffe hotel

Is it safe to walk to east village from the giraffe at 10 pm? Is the area around the giraffe generally safe late at night? Are subways considered safe after 10 pm? I am considering staying at the giraffe and want to feel secure walking late at night.

Ditto - yes, yes, and yes!

The Giraffe is on Park Avenue South at 26th Street, very safe location, several restaurants right there, not an area that becomes deserted at night. And from the East Village you'll be walking back to the hotel through Gramercy or Flatiron, also very safe!

The area around the Giraffe is fine. Walking to the east village is quite a hike from there though--maybe 30 mins. depending on how far east you're going. There are parts of the east village that while perfectly safe may not feel so comfortable late at night either because it could be deserted on side streets or just not attractive (a bit gritty looking). The subway is certainly safe, but not all parts of the east village are serviced by the subway.

The blue M's on the map are subway station.

If you plan to be in the east village a lot, you might want to consider the Standard East Village or the Thompson Lower East Side.

You're coming to the safest city in America, nothing like St. Louis or Cincinnati, where I'm from! You'll be amazed at how many people are out and about late late into the evening. The subway is also very safe, cheap, and the fastest way to move around the city.

You'll love the area around the Giraffe. Madison Square Park is right down the street which is lovely and a great place to eat at the Shake Shack. One of our favorite dive bars is right across the street from the park, Live Bait. We're staying at the Giraffe this year too.....11 days and counting!

I have walked that route alone on more than one occasion after midnight and it's been fine.

Yeah, it's only after 12:47 and 33 seconds that it starts to get dicey.

We stayed at the Giraffe a couple of years ago and felt completely safe. Not sure about the east village as we didn't get that far that time, but the Flatiron district was absolutely fine. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
